ASTANA, Kazakhstan: Takaful Ikhlas Bhd (Takaful IKHLAS) President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Datuk Latiff Abu Bakar was awarded Best CE0 2017 for the Takaful Industry at the Global Islamic Finance Awards (GIFA) 2017 Awards Ceremony held in Astana, Kazakhstan recently.
The Awards Ceremony was also attended by the President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev. GIFA which is now in its seventh year was first held in 2011 to recognise the excellence of individuals, institutions and governments in promoting and supporting Islamic banking and finance.
More than 50 individuals and institutions from various countries were among the award recipients at the GIFA 2017 Awards Ceremony.
"It is an honour to have received this award from GIFA. This award is a recognition of Takaful IKHLAS' efforts, commitments, mission and vision in being the preferred Takaful provider by providing valuable and customer-centric Islamic financial solutions to its customers," said Latiff.
"I dedicate this award to all staff, agency force and customers of Takaful IKHLAS and I wish to thank them all for their endless support," he added.
Latiff has more than 20 years of experience in the insurance and Takaful industries. He began his career in 1989 and has since then held various senior and key management positions in numerous local and multinational insurance and Takaful companies.
The award presented to Latiff is a recognition of his contribution in the development of Malaysia's Takaful industry through various initiatives and product innovations as well as his efforts in driving the success of Takaful IKHLAS.
According to Latiff, the key to his leadership success is that "you need to lead from your heart". Through the leadership of Latiff, Takaful IKHLAS had recorded strong business growth in both its Family and General Takaful businesses during the financial year ended March 31, 2017 (FY17).
The company registered a growth of 9.3 per cent in gross contribution of RM 989 million as compared to RM904.9 million registered in FY16. Its Family Takaful business gross contribution grew by 10.3 per cent from the previous year to RM 674.1 million, while its General Takaful business gross contribution grew by 7.2 per cent from the previous year to RM315 million.
Takaful IKHLAS had also successfully developed innovative products to meet the different customer needs and demands. These products will cater to all types of customer segments which include individuals, families, women as well as individuals with special needs.
The GIFA 2017 Best CEO Award is the second award received by Takaful I IKHLAS this year.
Takaful IKHLAS was earlier awarded the Best Takaful Company 2017 at the seventh Asian Islamic Banking and Takaful Conference.
