KUALA LUMPUR, May 23 (Bernama) -- In an effort to improve the command of the English language among students, Takaful Ikhlas Sdn Bhd today organised an English language seminar as a preparation for students sitting for the Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) and Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations.
Its head of Corporate Communication Department, Hasri Hamidan said the seminar entitled 'Learning English Is Fun', was being held for two days at the company's headquarters in Bangsar, here to fulfill its corporate social responsibility.
"We feel that the responsibility of churning out competitive human capital does not lie with certain parties only but was the responsibility of everyone," he told reporters after the opening of the seminar which ends tomorrow.
Sixty students of Forms 3 and 5 from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Sri Pantai, Kampung Kerinchi, took part in the programme handled by the Applied Scholastics Institute.
The seminar aimed to assist the students to build their confidence in speaking the language, as well as their pronunciation and understanding of the meaning of sentences.
A participant, Khairul Izwan Zulkifli, 17, said the approach adopted to teach the English language at the seminar was very interesting that he did not feel sleepy as he usually did in school.
"Here, one is free to ask questions, speak out and it helps me to improve my understanding of the English language," he said.
His friend, Nur Aniza Mohd Aznai, 17, said she was attracted to the teaching technique such as the way of pronunciation and constructing complete sentences.
"I hope to be able to use the knowledge and share it with my other friends," she said.
Takaful IKHLAS is expected to make the seminar as a yearly programme.
